JOHN W. EAKIN
Chairman
John W. Eakin, Chairman of Eakin Partners, formed Eakin Partners in the fall of 1999. John began his real estate career after graduating from the University of North Carolina in 1977. American General first employed John where he oversaw retail, office, and industrial developments. From 1980 to 1987, he was president and an owner of Carroll Properties. From 1980 to 1986, John successfully developed over 1 million square feet that was sold between 1986 and 1987 at a profit before real estate values plummeted. In 1987, John formed his own firm, Eakin & Smith, that was Nashville’s dominant office developer and leasing and management company.
In April 1996, John merged Eakin & Smith with Highwoods Properties (HIW) in a transaction in excess of $100 million. John was a Board Member, Senior Vice President, and served on Highwoods Investment Committee that approved all acquisitions and developments. During John’s tenure with Highwoods, the company grew from $800 million to $4 billion. He oversaw the operations in several cities in addition to Nashville, which was one of the premier performing regions for Highwoods. Over the last 25 years, John has gained extensive direct hands-on experience in development, leasing, and management, as well as a strong track record of setting a company's vision and managing employees to accomplish these goals.
In the fall of 1999 John formed Eakin Partners, which manages, leases, and develops commercial property. Eakin Partners developed Virginia Way Plaza and oversees the E.P. Real Estate Fund that owns Burton Hills I and II and is an owner of Roundabout Plaza and SunTrust Plaza, other Eakin developed buildings. Eakin Partners is also very active in tenant representation and corporate real estate consulting.
John is also the Chief Manager of EP Real Estate Fund II which is a $35 million dollar equity fund that is actively seeking real estate investments.
John has served on the Board of Central Parking Corporation (CPC), Prison Realty Trust (PZN), and is past Chairman of the Southern Chapter of the Young Presidents Organization.
